This is a class above the standard black. The black label is entry level to the world of malt whisky. The Double black takes things to up a notch in terms of taste.
Not necessarily better but much more power. This isn't a whisky that many beginners would enjoy. Good value and great character. On the nose it is rich with distinct peaty notes.
Citrus nuances accompanied with vanilla nuances are also appearent. Shortly after faint iodine nuaces can be noted. Pleasant and beautiful.
Presence of Talisker shows. Younger but stronger than Black Label. Finish is long with smoke and peppery nuances.
Nice flavours and it lingers long on the tongue, but it is lacking depth. No multiple layers of flavours. In Sweden the double black goes for around 32 pounds.
That being said, it is not worth it. I feel you get far more value out of the standard 12 year old Black label, which has a significent more depth to it.
This has a more syrupy feel, that reminds me of cheaper whiskys. Great balance of sweetness and peatiness. Will get another bottle soon! I have always wanted a spirit that I love.
And this is it. Warm, gentle, and full. Better still; the price. My bride gave a me a taste and I hated it. A year later, I was in love with this blended marvel.
The whiskey equivalent of a warm fireplace on a cool evening. A perfect before or with a beef at dinner. IDK about being "the best" Feels like a friend.
Love it. I never knew I liked the smoke until I tried it. This is one of my favourites in the Johnnie Walker range. A lot of whisky for the money.
The only problem is that it is a bit tricky to get hold of as its not for general sale in Canada. Well worth picking up at the airport when you travel though.
It is great when you let it breathe and add a little bit of water to it. I'm no whiskey expert but I like my black label.
I tried this and it tasted like some made in china replica of the original. This is not good whisky as they have relied on more smoke by heavy charring the casks.
They ought to have added more peated whiskies to the standard JW Black 12 that would have produced a much better result. Stay well clear of this one.
Then after adding some water, in a while I figure out how it oppened a smooth transcendence! At first it "kicks hard", but when you add some water and let it be for awhile, then it really opens up.
Light smokiness followed by splendid smoothness. Long finish. Like a gentle morning. Smokey rather than peaty with a cloying sweetness that is guaranteed to get on your nerves.
On the plus side - lovely looking bottle and box. Revisited after a year. Smokey and delicious. Definitely a unique blend that delivers.
The best of regional single malts blended into one—- perfect — peat and oaky smoke come through with balance. I was mightily disappointed with my first encounter of this as it was no where near as peaty and smokey as i was lead to beleive.
I thought i was going to relegate it to the sacrificial coke and whisky shelf Give it a chance and i think it is a wisky that you will grow to enjoy after getting over the disappointment of what you may have been expecting.
I was a bit apprehensive in buying this because of all of the reviews talking about the level of smoke in this bottle.
I believed it would be similar to Ardbeg or Laphroag I dont care for either. If you are thinking the same, let me put this to rest, it tastes nothing like those Islay scotches.
That 'medicinal' band-aid flavor is nowhere to be found. Just delicious wood smoke with a nice dash of rich, sweet, honey goodness in the background.
Absolutely delicious! Takes ice and water much better than regular black label. I don't know what everyone else is drinking but Johnnie Walker Double Black is neither smooth, well balanced, or remotely enjoyable.
The charred taste was overpowering and not a single one of the four friends that tried this whiskey with me found it remotely drinkable. If you like having the aftertaste your mouth experiences akin to that of chewing on a charred barrel chip then this is the whiskey for you, if that's not your cup of tea then stay far away from Double Black.
Johnnie black 12 - like driving a well respected Golf GTI around a race track. Johnnie double black - taking the same GTI around the track, except without wearing a seatbelt, switching off the stability program and cutting the exhaust in half.
Both excellent, one just feels a little more rough and dangerous. Like we sometimes need to be. October Like regular Black Label, muffled by a cozy blanket of extra peat and sweetness.
Quite a treat. Regular Black would not have gone off like this. Stick with cheaper, superior, regular Black Label: It's not what it used to be, but it's reliable, rounded and pleasant.
The remaining Double Black is relegated to 'The Woolworth' cocktails with a rinse of Islay and orange bitters, and a twist of lemon rind, to make it palatable.
Creamy smoky goodness Having started my drinking with ultra-cheap rot gut 'Indian whiskeys' which are essentially whiskey flavoured industrial spirit derived from molasses I absolutely abhor all whiskey.
Bacardi and Absolut with tonic water are my preferred tipples. I have tried sipping single malts and the better blended whiskeys but never could get the rot gut taste out of my memory.
Was forced to try Double Black in the company of whiskey drinkers and what a revelation. That smoky, peaty almost mineral charred wood.
The complex, beautiful lovechild of vanilla with Maple Syrup. I ran away with the bottle And heresy be told just did a half and half with decaf coffee.
I'm in love. I'm planning orgies that includes coffee, kahlua, Bailies and ground cinnamon. Gotta go There's a Scottish lynching party trying to break down my inn keeper's door!
It's just ok to me. Personally I do prefer Black Label. The smoke flavour can be overwhelming and for some a cause of nausea, as it appears not natural.
I'm a big fan of JWDB. I enjoy its complexity mixed with peaty smoke. It is smooth, flavorful, has an enjoyable longer lasting finish, and is inexpensive.
Highly reccomended. I like this for a simple weeknight scotch. I'm primarily an Islay or Bourbon drinker.
Not usually a fan of strong floral or citrus flavors. JWDB is a really nice balance of smoke and floral notes though. The nose can bring a surprisingly pleasant burnt toast note, but its definitely subtle and competes with young grains.
I actually prefer this to something like a Talisker DE single malt. Its not as powerful and it certainly doesn't have a strong single identity, but it offers more flavors to mull over than most single malts, and it goes down easy.
It has a little more smoke than standard JW Black but at the expense of complexity and finish. Not really the peat bomb I expected.
Better with a few drops of water. Won't replace JW Black in my cabinet. I found this Scotch to be creamy with a hint of caramel and slightly smoky.
For those who can't withstand the Smokey nature of Lagavulin this is a good starting point. It is a nip that is addictive.
My advice for beginners is a little more ice than usual. Overall it is a decent Scotch that isn't standard and will test a novice palate.
I love it read reviews and some whisky snobs abound, but I choose my own opinion and love it I normally drink blended whisky with a mixer but this is great straight which really surprised me, try it for yourself if you like smokestack peaty flavours, : : :.
I have taken double black once. Let me tell you the truth about it. This a good whisky blend and you would hardly find better in its price category, in the sense it successfully combines tastes that can easily go wild and spoil a drink smoke, peat, char, tar Adding water was also no good idea with JWB.
No such thing here, smell and taste are well-balanced all along the Double Black experience, with or without water, even though a little more length and less intensity would have greatly emphasised the finish.
Particularly good with dark or milk chocolate. Received this as a present, being an Islay man, i was skeptical. However, I was pleasently surprised.
A little smoke and a little medicine. I prefer a Lagavulin or an Ardbeg, but this is worth a try. Also, it is a bit cheaper ;-. Never been a big Johnnie Walker fan Un blend bien balanceado, algo de humo y turba, pero sin exagerar Es un buen inicio hacia los whiskies turbados como talisker, ardbeg o lagavulin Disappointed in this as I'm a fan of Johnnie walker gold and black label , a cheap medicinal taste from this like cough mixture cut with red label and a smoke bomb Standar Black label is far nicer to drink.
I'm a novice scotch drinker. Have tried several types and for some reason this is just really smooth and easy to drink for me. This is one of my favorite scotches!!!
The only thing I like better is Blue and Gold. This is my celebratory Friday night on the rocks scotch!!! Not a fan of this one at all.
